The Museum of Victorian Superstitions and Spirits
The museum is closed to the public but has multiple events per year with a focus on certain topics with rotating exhibits. This project has been slowly taking form since autumn 2019, and is a small private museum housed in the Historic downtown Olympia neighborhood in a Gothic haunted house. The focus of the museum is to display and educate about folk occult and domestic items from the Victorian and Edwardian time periods, into the 1940s. These items ultimately have to do with superstitions and folk beliefs surrounding spirits, death, health, prophecy and more. Topics of interest include: funerary and mourning customs, pharmacy and herbal medicine, fortune telling and dreaming practices, beliefs about spirits, day to day domestic life and household lore, traditional holiday observances, lucky and protective amulets, common superstitions, and plant magic.
The museum is closed to the public but has multiple events per year with a focus on certain topics with rotating exhibits. Contact for more details and to be notified about events.
